Category: Publications

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new article co-authored by Simon Lukato, Agnieszka Krogul-Sobczak, Grzegorz Litwinienko, Ola F. Wendt, Reine Wallenberg, Filip Hallböök, and Michał Wójcik, titled:

Green and scalable approaches for synthesis and encapsulating clean metal nanoclusters inside cerium MOFs for efficient glycerol carboxylation with CO₂
Journal of CO₂ Utilization, Volume 102 (2025), Article 103243
DOI: 10.1016/j.jcou.2025.103243

This publication presents a green and scalable approach for synthesizing and encapsulating clean metal nanoclusters (NCats) inside cerium-based metal–organic frameworks (Ce-MOFs) for the efficient carboxylation of glycerol with CO₂. In the pursuit of CO₂-neutral renewable energy solutions, biodiesel production generates large amounts of crude glycerol (GL) as a byproduct. Converting GL into value-added chemicals offers a sustainable route for its utilization. Metal nanoclusters embedded within MOFs represent a promising class of catalysts for such transformations, though their scalable synthesis has remained challenging. This study provides a clean, surfactant-free, and scalable method for producing Cu, Ag, Pd, and multimetallic PdAgCu nanoclusters within cerium-based MOFs, highlighting their potential for sustainable catalytic applications and CO₂ valorization.

Congratulations!
