Grzegorz Litwinienko obtained MSc degree in chemistry in 1993 at the University of Warsaw in Poland under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Temeriusz. In 2000 he completed PhD thesis entitled Study of autoxidation kinetics of fats and lipid analogues and antioxidant action of phenolic derivatives under the supervision of Prof. Teresa Kasprzycka-Guttman. In 2001 he was employed as an assistant professor. In the same year he was awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) with fellowship and started 12 month-long postdoc in the laboratory headed by Dr. Keith U. Ingold in the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa. Over the period of 2004-2009 he frequently visited the laboratories at NRC and University of Ottawa (Dr. Keith Ingold and Prof. Tito Scaiano). In 2006 Litwinienko obtained habilitation degree (DSc) presenting the thesis entitled: Solvent Effects on mechanism of action of chain-breaking antioxidants.

Since 2007 he is a head of the Laboratory of Physicochemical Fundamentals of Chemical Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry (now Laboratory of Technology of Organic Functional Materials). Between 2006 and 2012 he served as a head of Division of Chemical Technology at FCh UW and since 2017 he is a head of Division of Organic Chemistry and Chemical Technology. From 2012 to 2015 he was a Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry responsible for development and international cooperation. In 2013 he obtained a professorship position (associated professor) at University of Warsaw (from 2017 full professorship).

His main research interests are: autoxidation kinetics of fats and lipid analogues, antioxidant action of phenolic derivatives, solvent effects on mechanism of action of chain-breaking antioxidants, thermal analysis, calorimetry, nanoantioxidants.

For the third consecutive year prof. Litwinienko in included on the list of 2% of the most-cited scientists in various disciplines.
